Happy Mother’s Day: My Favorite Movie and Television Moms

Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there including those like me whose only children are of the four legged variety! :-) I thought that on this day set aside to honor all the wonderful mothers in the world, I would list ten movie and television moms that I’ve come to love over the years. My own wonderful mother passed away a few years ago and in her honor, I tried to pick moms who were as loving and supportive as she was.

These are not really in any particular order, but as I tried to rank them I found myself being partial to the television moms since they seemed to remind me the most of my own mom.

I’m sorry to hear about your mom. I too lost my mom a few years ago. I think one of my favorite mothers in the movies is Marty’s in the movie Marty (1955).

Great list! I’m especially fond of Mrs. Miniver, Mrs. Ingalls and Mrs. Billingsley. Another great TV mom was Donna Reed’s role on The Donna Reed Show. Also Jane Wyatt on Father Knows Best.

Thanks Tom. I’m very sorry about your mom also. Yes, Marty’s mom was another good one. You had to feel for her in the scene where she’s trying to get him to go to the dance hall.

Thanks Audrey. I haven’t seen either of those two series, but I would love to someday. My favorite decade is the 50’s, but Leave it to Beaver is the only show I’ve watched from that time period.

Great list of Moms!! How about adding Mrs. munster :)

Thanks Brent! I don’t remember watching much of The Munsters, but I’m sure she was a lovely mother. :-) I saw her listed as a favorite in a few “favorite tv mom” polls.
